Does art change how we feel?
Patterns of Emotion is a research-art project exploring the neurological relationship between visual pattern, attention, and emotional state. Each piece begins as an intuitive ink drawing, a meditative act, and becomes a stimulus for study. Using EEG to measure brainwave response to pattern engagement, the project asks: what does art actually do to a nervous system?
1. Intuitive drawing
Each piece begins without plan — one mark leads to the next, mirroring how emotion actually moves.
2. Meditative engagement
Viewers are invited to slow down and trace the patterns — activating attention and presence.
3. Response collection
Emotional and physiological responses — including EEG data — are gathered from pattern engagement.
4. Pattern → insight
Findings inform both future artworks and a longer-term application for accessible mental wellness tools.
